Ruakaka has a community of more than 3000 permanent residents. It is forecast to be the fastest growing town in Northland with over 9,000 residents by 2017. They have many different community groups and clubs, including: Ruakaka Surf Lifesaving Patrol promotes safe swimming at Ruakaka Beach. They have clubrooms on the beach and membership of all ages. Ruakaka Recreation Centre, comprising two Squash Courts, the Library with community meeting room, and Creche is centrally located on the opposite side of Takutai Place from the Ruakaka Town Centre. Sports Fields around the Recreation Centre are the home ground for Ruakaka's many Touch Rugby and Soccer teams.
The New Ruakaka Community Hub which incorporates an expanded library, meeting rooms and and enhanced Council Service Centre is to be built soon by Whangarei District Council within the Ruakaka Town Centre block.
Marsden Cove offers a lovely environment built around the new marina. La Pointe Beach Estate is built around a private 9 hole golf course.
